From camera boy to photo artist
At the age of 10, I have started to take pictures with my first camera, Start35. Few years later, my mother handed me Olympus Pen. And I also used my father’s KonicaⅡ.I was a very little camera boy in the country of Japan
In junior high school, I got Nikomat FTN. In university I took the pictures with my Olympus OM-1.
At that time, the Japanese contemporary photography came into very fashion. Many post-war photographers, Eikoh Hosoe, Daido Moriyama, Takuma Nakahira, Nobuyoshi Araki, Jun Morinaga, Yoshihiro Tachiki, Kishin Shinoyama, Tenmei Kanoh, Hajime Sawatari had produced remarkable works in the Japanese photo history. Watching their works in photo magazines published in every month, I have dreamed to be a photographer like them.
At the age of 18, I have joined the first photo workshop in Japan by Prof. Allen A. Dutton of Arizona States University, assisted by Eikoh Hosoe. I bought the silkscreen prints of “Cherry blossoms” by Daido Moriyama. But I did not choose the way to be a photographer. After the graduation, I started to work at the advertising agency. During my days in ad world, I used Canon F-1, AE-1, A-1, T-90. Later I transferred to the editing production, I kept to use Canon cameras and lenses.
Canon A-1 had traveled with me for the around the world tour. But I lost all the photo gear in the southern suburb of Paris. To continue my tour, I got Canon T-70 and Zenit(from USSR)
Along the development of digital camera technology, I had the digital gear by Olympus, Casio, Ricoh, Sigma and Panasonic.
Now, all of film cameras had become the hobby use or the collection item. I have a policy about my film cameras. I decided to use only M42 and L39 cameras. So that, Canon7, Voigtrender Bessa-R, R3, Fed, Nicca33, Minolta 35 of L39, and Fujica ST-605, Pentax SP, Mamiya Sekor1000, Rocoh Singlex, Yasica, Cosina, Practica and Edixa of M42, I had used. Some of them are still with me on holidays. Now for my work in magazines, and for my activities of photo artist, I use the digital cameras by Panasonic and Fujifilm.
This is my short story about my cameras of my life, from rolling 1960s to global 2010s.
